Breakaway switches are required on all trailers over 2000kg.
The breakaway switch is designed to operate electric brakes for a period of 15 minutes in cases where the trailer has detached form the vehicle when travelling.
Plug trailer plug into its socket to activate the battery and brakes. Remove the pin in the breakaway switch to test battery and brakes.
You must hear the electric brake activate from the breakaway battery. If not then the battery needs replacing and the breakaway system is not working.
Breakway Switches are factory tested. It is recommended Pins must not be removed for testing otherwise the switch needs to be replaced.
Breakaway Switches are a safety item much like fire extinguishers and must not be tested.
